Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss.
- If the wooden panels have been previously stained, painted or varnished, you’ll need to strip them back to the bare wood using sandpaper or a suitable wood stripper
- If your shed or fence is affected by algae, fungi or moss brush it down with a stiff brush and clean with a garden cleaner
Application
Before applying stir the product thoroughly and test a small area to ensure colour and adhesion. Colours can vary depending on the surface to be treated.
- When applying more than one coat allow 2-6 hours between coats under normal weather conditions
- For best results stand with the sprayer nozzle approximately 30cm (12") from the fence panel and spray one panel at a time
- Start by spraying the edges and any vertical struts before spraying the centre of the fence panel
- Using a slow, sweeping motion, spray horizontally across the panel, turning at the end and overlapping approximately half of the previous pass each time
- Take care not to spray too quickly as this may result in an uneven finish
- Similarly, spraying too slowly will result in excess product being applied causing runs
- Please be aware that coverage may be less on weathered or absorbent wood
- Avoid spraying in windy or damp conditions to get the best results
- Any overspray should be cleaned up immediately
- For a strong colour change more coats may be needed
- If using more than one tin it’s advisable to mix together in a large container or finish in a corner before starting a new can to ensure consistency in colour
Note: Always follow the manufacturer instructions found on the tin.
Aftercare & Storage
To maintain your shed or fence reapply 1 maintenance coat each year to prolong the life of the wood. Occasional cleaning with a dampened cloth can also prolong the life of your treated wood.
Store any remaining paint in dry conditions and protect from frost and sunlight.
